A bit is a kind of horse tack used for controlling the horse during horse riding activities. Bits are available in synthetic material or metal. Typically, bits are placed in the horse’s mouth and assist the rider in communicating with the horse. Some of the commonly used bits types are:

• Snaffle bit: It is used for applying direct pressure on the corner, bars and tongue of the horse.
• Curb bit: It uses a lever, called a shank, which puts pressure on the mouth, poll, as well as chin groove.
